First steps

Being a newbie to the community I spent my first day on Resident Advisor to handle the basics and make myself a home. In other words: adding a profile picture and typing in some basic facts about myself felt obligatory. As Resident Advisor provides its members with local news and event highlights, setting my region was another step to take. Now what?

As I've said before, I'm already signed up for numerous kinds of networks, so let's see how far my new virtual home is spread across the world wide web: Upon sign up Resident Advisor already offers options to connect profiles on plattforms such as Twitter, MySpace and alike. But searching for the magazine on those plattforms will also do the trick. Alright... befriended, followed and chosen to become a fan. Done.

Hello, I'm a Resident Advisor!

My name is Oliver Breuer, I'm a 27-year old student enrolled in the field of Communication and Multimedia Design at University of Applied Sciences Aachen, Germany. Part of my undergraduate studies is the module Community Building, a course build upon concepts on planning, building, maintaining, and moderating virtual communities.

One of the main assignments requires each student to join an online community of choice, encourages him or her to participate in the community, and within the following 8 weeks blog about experiences made within the community. By the end of the course a final conclusion regarding advantages and disadvantages is presented on the blog.

Being already signed up for quite a large number of online communities and social networks, it was hard to find another plattform that qualifies for the purpose and that I would also consider interesting enough to spend my time on. I finally chose to sign up for Resident Advisor, an international online magazine devoted to dance music and club culture.
